It's tragic to hear that Cambridge Vet School may be shutting its doors in the near future. The veterinary profession is a small connected industry and the vet schools are so much more than a place for students.
I never attended Cambridge, I studied at Bristol, but Cambridge Vet School has shaped my veterinary career through research and teaching over the last 3 decades. Vets have a mandatory obligation to undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) and some choose, as I did, to undertake further qualifications in specific areas (certificates, diplomas or Phds). Many of the hours of additional training I have received over the years have been by very talented teaching staff from all of the vet schools across the UK. Their research, knowledge and expertise in teaching has helped me help thousands of pets, and I am just one of many thousands of vets working in clinical work who owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Some of my veterinary heroes have graduated from or taught at this amazing school and they must be distraught to think of their school in such jeopardy. Cambridge Vet School is a long standing, excellent institution and its far reaching influence on our profession can not be measured and noted on a spreadsheet. We need better ways to calculate value other than pounds and pence. If you want to show your support then click this link: https://c.org/gWry68KbBK
