I have been a big advocate of Zoos and the work they do for a number of years now. I used to be dead set against them before I really got to know what they are all about. The zoo world has changed dramatically since I was a kid and although they still promise a good day out they are also really heavily involved in conservation. My local zoo, Chester Zoo, is a brilliant case in point. They have been funding conservation projects around the globe for many years. Now they have set up a specific charity site for people to directly see and contribute to several projects in frontline conservation around the globe.
There’s a fantastic website featuring blogs from the project staff where you can witness the trials and tribulations these guys face in the field. Whether its trying to keep elephants out of people’s crops in India, building bridges for orangutans or trying to preserve our very own native wildlife. This website is very family friendly and educational so would be ideal for school groups or similar.
