Top of the World

The last month has been pretty hectic for me but it's also been pretty satisfying for a number of reasons. I've had lots of great feedback about 'Safari Vet School' and been offered another amazing wildlife film trip for the end of May. Over the previous few months I had been getting fairly snowed under with deadlines, requests and workload. The only time I could totally get away from it all was to disappear up in the hills, far from computers, emails and phone-calls (photo is on the Glyder Ridge, Snowdonia). Trying to juggle multiple careers can get a little too much at times. My vet work has to take absolute priority when I am at the practice and therefore there are large portions of time that I can't deal with all the other stuff that comes along with my TV work, such as answering correspondence, writing talks and arranging trips. However, I did get a really lovely surprise at work this last week. There was another large envelope in my in-tray with my name on that I managed to eventually get round to opening. It was a letter and certificate stating that I had been nominated for the Petplan Vet of the Year Award. My brother Tom has had a number of these over the years since he started the practice, and the practice itself even reached the final three last year, but this was my first personal nomination. I take enormous pride in my vet work and, like most vets I know, really try to do my utmost for the patients under my care by attending training courses, reading and researching and speaking to specialists. We are very lucky to have such dedicated owners who value what we do and I'm very touched that someone has taken the time to recommend me for this award. It's a lovely little anonymous moral boost. So thank you to whoever that was, it is very much appreciated.
